Description:

Compiles and maintains information and records to prepare purchase orders. Edits purchase requests and prepares

purchase orders. Consults catalogs and other references to obtain prices and specifications. Maintains files and

records of materials, prices, and inventories. Performs related clerical duties. May contact vendors and suppliers for

quotations, and follow-up on outstanding purchase orders.

Duties:

Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in correct amounts.

Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review requisitions for goods and services.

Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability,

reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.

Monitor and follow applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.

Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other

representatives.

Network with staff, users, and vendors to discuss goods or services.

Review catalogs, industry periodicals, directories, trade journals, and Internet sites, and consult with

other department personnel to locate necessary goods and services.

Write and review product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or

services to be purchased.

Prepare required routine (daily, monthly, quarterly) reports.

Facilitate the development of strategies to meet or exceed organizational and department performance goals and objectives, monitor results, and recognize employee, department and organization accomplishments.

Model, facilitate and encourage exemplary internal and external customer service, open communication, collaboration, participation and professional development among staff.

Ability to work in compliance with Metro's security policies.

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university)

Experience

Five to Seven years related experience involving Federal and State funded procurements

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer Skills

Purchasing software, spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, internet, etc.

Certificates & Licenses

Purchasing Manager certification (CPM) preferred
